CNR MLW RSC-13 Locomotive Shell
Number series (1700-1710) - MR10a & MR10b
The RSC-13 is a unique and historically significant diesel-electric locomotive model, originally built by Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) for the Canadian National Railway (CN). Only 35 of these locomotives were produced between 1955 and 1957.
The RSC-13 was designed to meet CN's specifications for lightweight branch lines, featuring a 1,000 horsepower (750 kW) Model 539T diesel engine. The locomotive's A1A-A1A truck configuration allowed it to distribute weight effectively, making it ideal for weight-restricted rail lines. Initially used to replace steam locomotives, the RSC-13 played a crucial role in eastern Canada, particularly in the Maritimes although a couple of units were spotted on Vancouver Island.
